Customer profile: Sprint Spectrum Transition

Dial-up connections and analog technology have become virtual dinosaurs in this era of wireless connectivity. To prevent a growing communications problem, the United States government launched a campaign to make wireless broadband accessible to non-profit broadcasting services in all 50 states, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands, by the year 2010. In response to federal mandates, Sprint Nextel began transitioning rural school districts, distance learning services, county schools, and local broadcasters from analog to digital technology in 2006.

Because the government requires detailed, auditable records of all conversions, Sprint partnered with AirClic® to develop a customized, error-proof, easy-to-use application that tracks and monitors workers, equipment, and project status. The solution uses bar-code scanning, camera phone image capture, and built-in GPS functionality to tag time and location for all project-related data. In addition, real-time visibility allows the company to monitor the progress on multiple transitions in map and table views simultaneously.

The virtual paper trail has enabled the company to limit costs and avoid litigation, stay on schedule, maintain worker accountability, and most importantly, keep customers and the government satisfied.
